James C. Maerder represents developers, owners, and property managers in connection with various types of multifamily affordable housing programs and transactions. Such transactions include Section 8 renewals and modifications, prepayments of existing FHA-insured mortgages, transfers of physical assets, and Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program conversions.
After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, James worked for 6 years as an attorney-advisor in the Office of Legislation and Regulations in the Office of General Counsel of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. While at HUD, James collaborated with program offices and their legal counsels to draft housing-related legislative proposals and to implement HUD policy changes through Federal Register rulemaking.
